Our History

In May 1926, Wamuran District Fruitgrowers Co-operative Association Limited was opened to assist in the transportation of local produce to the market. On 3rd April 1932 a “Trading Branch” was opened for 1 hour, 3 days a week, selling packing cases, wool and fertilisers.

In 1936 a shed was erected and trading hours extended to 1/2 day, 3 days a week. Extensions were made in 1961 and 1962 the shed was opened 5 days a week with a full time manager employed. Wamuran District Fruitgrowers Co-operative Association became a true Co-operative in July 1966 with shares issued and members established.

The original shed was removed in 1977 and a new modern warehouse and store opened to increase business. More extensions have been made since.

A name change to Suncoast Rural was made in August 2011 from the merger with Ruralco Holdings. In 2014, the merger with Ruralco was dissolved and Suncoast Rural Pty Ltd began trading as Wamuran Produce and Hardware.

Over the past 92 years the Wamuran area has seen a huge diversification from pineapples, bananas and citrus in the early days to avocado, strawberries and raspberries more recently.
